No Two Days the Same for Graduates
Meet the graduates transforming Metro’s network.
Our rail network is undergoing a significant transformation and two graduates in our Rolling Stock and Infrastructure teams are playing a key role in shaping and future-proofing the network for generations to come.
Second year Mechanical Engineering Graduate Richard Cai is currently on his fourth rotation in the Infrastructure – Track Maintenance team at Batman Depot.
Richard says that the program allows graduates to express their creativity whilst continuing to build upon their skills throughout each rotation as they are being exposed to various aspects of the business.
“It is amazing to experience and be able to contribute to various projects that will optimise the rail network,” he says.
First year Engineering Graduate Summer Bulka is on her second rotation in Rolling Stock based at the Westall Projects Depot.
Summer says that Metro’s graduate program was a welcome departure from her previous office-based job. It has allowed her to work outdoors, engage in hands-on visual learning and taught her to be flexible in her work.
“In this current rotation I am a project engineer completing scheduling and planning, while in my previous rotation with the infrastructure team I did on-site structural inspections,” she says.
Summer says each rotation offers her a totally different world and learning experience.
“As a graduate I’m continuously learning and soaking it all up,” she says.
Engineering graduates with an interest in the rail industry will be able to submit their applications for the 2024 intake.
These graduates are poised to become future Metro Trains rail engineers, helping Metro shape the future to become a world class railway network for Melbourne.
