Metro’s long-serving rail workers honoured
More than 22,000 years of Melbourne rail expertise gathered together on Friday.
For the first time in three years Metro Trains celebrated in-person to recognize the staff who have clocked up more than 15 years of service.
Metro Trains’s CEO Raymond O’Flaherty says, “The passion, dedication and contribution of each and every one of our staff has been integral to Metro’s success.”
“This is an industry where people feel a real sense of purpose in serving our city and many stay working in the railways for their entire working life.”
In total 872 employees who have reached significant service milestones between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2022 attended the event along with Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll, Metro’s executive team, board of directors and Rugby League legend Robbie Kearns.
Special recognition was given to nine staff who have worked on Melbourne’s suburban railways for 50 years.
